Sola Fide – Faith Alone

Salvation is by Grace through Faith in Christ, it’s Not by Works. Good works are the Fruit of Salvation, Not the Root of Salvation..

That is a clear and historically grounded way to put it. Good works are the fruit of salvation, not the root. Paul makes this point in Ephesians: grace comes first, and good works follow as what God prepared for us to walk in.

Why this matters in daily life:

  • It frees us from striving. If works earned salvation, we would never know whether we had done enough. Because Christ’s righteousness is a gift, we can rest in Him with real assurance.
  • It guards against two errors. One is legalism, which treats obedience as a way to earn God’s favor. The other is the idea that a person can claim faith while showing no change at all. Scripture gives us neither. Works are not the cause of salvation, but they are the evidence of a living faith.
  • It reframes obedience. We serve out of gratitude and love, not fear or obligation.

Where do you find it hardest to live in that freedom: resting in grace, or letting your faith show up in action?

Scripture

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” Titus 3:5
