Testing of your faith

James 1

2Dear brothers and sisters,a when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

5If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

9Believers who areb poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. 10And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field. 11The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements.

12God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong,c and he never tempts anyone else. 14Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

16So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.d He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.e 18He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.f

Listening and Doing

19Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20Human angerg does not produce the righteousnessh God desires. 21So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

22But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

26If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Invisibility

What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

Sometimes I do wish I had the power of invisibility- sorta like being a fly on the wall to be in on certain things that are said and done in secret. I’m sure that I’m not alone in this, it’s probably a secret wish of many in this world and throughout the ages.

Fellowship with Him

If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not do the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
— 1 John 1:6-10

Christ set us free

“For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm,  then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.  Take note! I, Paul, am telling you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all. Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to do the entire law. You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace.  For we eagerly await  through the Spirit, by faith, the hope  of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith  working through love.  You were running well. Who prevented you from obeying the truth?  This persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.  A little leaven  leavens the whole batch of dough. I myself am persuaded in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty.  Now brothers and sisters, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross  has been abolished. I wish those who are disturbing you might also let themselves be mutilated! For you were called  to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity  for the flesh, but serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled  in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself.  , But if you bite and devour  one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another. I say, then, walk by the Spirit  and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires  what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious:  sexual immorality,  moral impurity,  promiscuity,  idolatry,  sorcery,  hatreds,  strife,  jealousy,  outbursts of anger,  selfish ambitions,  dissensions,  factions,  envy, , drunkenness, carousing,  and anything similar. I am warning you about these things #— #as I warned you before #— #that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.  But the fruit of the Spirit  is love,  joy,  peace, patience,  kindness,  goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,  and self-control.  The law is not against such things.  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus  have crucified the flesh  with its passions and desires.  If we live  by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. ”

I Will Bless the LORD

Psalm 26

I Will Bless the LORD

Of David.[1] Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. [2] Prove me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and my mind. [3] For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness. [4] I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. [5] I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked. [6] I wash my hands in innocence and go around your altar, O LORD, [7] proclaiming thanksgiving aloud, and telling all your wondrous deeds. [8] O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. [9] Do not sweep my soul away with sinners, nor my life with bloodthirsty men, [10] in whose hands are evil devices, and whose right hands are full of bribes. [11] But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me. [12] My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the LORD.

Wisdom

“Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table. She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city. “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, “Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.” Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt. So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you. Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more. Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer. The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it. She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city. She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business. “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, “Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!” But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬-‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all and over all who believe. In fact, there is no difference, because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God publicly displayed as the atonement seat through faith in his blood. God did this to demonstrate his justice, since, in his divine restraint, he had left the sins that were committed earlier unpunished. He did this to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so that he would be both just and the one who justifies the person who has faith in Jesus. What happens to boasting then? It has been eliminated. By what principle—by the principle of works? No, but by the principle of faith. For we conclude that a person is justified by faith without the works of the law.
